Combat Extreme Transition Zone grass seed is a 4-way turf type fescue blend. It has leaf blades that are fine to medium in texture, and it forms a dense turf, performing well in full sun or partial shade in USDA Zones 6 - 7. This blend would also perform in USDA Zones 8 - 9 in partial shade. The turf type varieties in the blend were chosen for their heat tolerance, disease resistance, and rapid germination and establishment. This blend produces a strong, deep root system and a thick lawn with the ability to repair itself through tillering. Tillering is the ability to send up new shoots of grass which fill in open areas and knits the grass together densely to help with weed control. Plant Combat Extreme grass seed in the spring once soil temperature reaches 55F. If planting in the fall, allow a minimum of 6 weeks for establishment before the first frost. Broadcast ½ of the seed walking across the area north to south, and repeat a second application with the remaining ½ of seed walking east to west. It is not necessary to cover the seed. Keep the seed consistently moist until germination occurs. Generally, the first mowing of Combat Extreme is 21 - 30 days after seeding.
